Would you like to improve your language skills by meeting people from all over the world?
The “BiblioTandem Linguistico” project is an initiative designed to offer you a reliable, accessible and structured service where the meeting of different cultures becomes a reality.
What does it involve?
BiblioTandem offers you the chance to take part in conversation sessions based on reciprocity. Each session lasts 60 minutes, divided equally between the two languages (Italian and English), so that both of you have the same opportunity to practise, learn and exchange ideas.
Why should you take part?
The BiblioTandem project is not only an effective way to improve your language fluency through authentic interaction; above all, it is a cross-cultural experience that enriches both your personal and academic profile. Taking part means seizing the opportunity to:
• Build connections: you’ll be able to form close friendships with students of all nationalities, in a welcoming atmosphere that fosters integration.
• Grow interculturally: you will experience direct engagement with perspectives and traditions different from your own, transforming diversity into a valuable resource. This personal growth will enable you to acquire the so-called intercultural ‘soft skills’ which are increasingly in demand in today’s global workplace.
• Experience the Library: by taking part, you’ll become more familiar with the Library's facilities and, at
the same time, discover (or help your partner discover) what the Faculty have to offer.
• Mutual and spontaneous learning: unlike traditional lectures, BiblioTandem allows you to learn idiomatic expressions and colloquial language that you’d be unlikely to find in a textbook, all in an environment free from the pressure of judgement or grades.
How can you participate?
The project is open to all Sapienza students.
If you are from abroad, book your conversation session directly via your personal account in the library (log in using your institutional credentials, look for the ‘Book your place’ section, and click on ‘Make a new reservation’ in the menu on the right). You can do this up to 10 days in advance and up to 2 days before your preferred date. You will receive a confirmation email from the library. If you have any difficulties, write to bibliotecabarone@uniroma1.it.
If you speak Italian and are interested in taking part in the BiblioTandem Linguistico conversation sessions, please fill in this form to register and let us know your availability. The library will draw up a schedule based on the details you have provided and will match you with an international partner.
The sessions will take place in the reading rooms of the “Enrico Barone” Library or in other areas of the Campus. You will find qualified staff on hand to support you and monitor the service to ensure you have the best possible experience.
